He was a good frog...
This must be the cousin to the frog that C. caught with her bare hands at Grandmother and Grandaddy's house today. (Or maybe he is a toad. He does look kind of bumpy if you click on the picture.) She was traumatized when I made her set her "pet" free, but it just wouldn't have lived too much longer in that plastic container! The only thing worse that having a frog in your possession, is a dead frog!

Reflections
Tonight we finished the third and final night of our photography class. I enjoyed the class very much and learned a lot. Thanks Dr. W! I have a long road to travel, but I am proud of what I have accomplished so far, in only three weeks. One of our first challenges was to figure out what it is that we like to photograph. For me, it is the babies and children, as well as, the macro stuff. (I was glad to hear tonight that I wasn't the only one whose child is getting tired of posing!!) I want to continue to practice and improve in those areas, but I also want to continue to work on the other things, as well (shutter speed, aperture, action shots, taking pictures of buildings). Though my camera does not compare to some, I have been truly amazed at what I can do with it. I guess that is why they give you a manual! I hate that it took me four years to open it and start experimenting! For now, I will keep clicking and experimenting...
Awful Pictures
None of these turned out well. The only reason I am posting them is so that I can get help. It was almost dark, and I wasn't sure what settings to use. I tried a couple of different things, but none of them seemed to work very well. All of the pictures are fuzzy. I tried adjusting the aperture and I tried the P setting. I also tried the night setting for the first time. I did not like what it did. If made the pictures look as if it were daytime. Maybe it was not dark enough yet. In one direction it would look fairly light and in another direction it was darker. Plus, I have never really taken good pictures of buildings, especially when they are sandwiched together. There were other shots that were worse that I did not post. Any suggestions Dr. W? Please help me so that I can take some more and get these off of here!

Black and Whites
I love black and white pictures! I took these today, along with 125 other pictures. Many of those 128 were because I was trying out the continuous shooting feature on my camera. You take 10 pictures before you know it! I also tried a shooting with a slow shutter speed and panning, like we were supposed to. That didn't work out very well for me. The pictures didn't seem all that blurred and and they were way too light. I'm not sure what the problem was...

Shutter Speed and Action Shots
Tonight I experimented with shutter speed and action shots. These photos turned out darker than I expected. I guess maybe it has something to do with the aperture. As far as I know, on my camera, if it is set on shutter priority, I can't adjust the aperture. I also don't really understand how you know what to set the shutter speed on for various movement. I guess it probably takes lots of experimenting. I also tried to do continuous shooting, but I was not able to get that to work. I'll have to work on that some more.
Ooooh Baby!

Not a Wildlife Photographer
This Japanese Beetle is the closest I will ever come to being a wildlife photographer...I don't think I have the patience. I couldn't catch the butterflies and hummingbirds!
Flower Pics
C. asked me yesterday if I was going to stop being a teacher and be a photographer. I thought that was hysterical! Maybe I'll become a flower photographer...is there such a thing?

Reflections
Dr. W posted a picture on her blog (www.drwwhatsup.blogspot.com) that she took of a sign in a strength and conditioning room at UGA...
4 Steps to Achievement
Plan purposefully
Prepare prayerfully
Proceed positively
Pursue persistently
We were asked to comment on whether or not the message on this sign could be applied to photography. I think this message can definitely be applied to photography and every other aspect of life. What a great sign!
